He is the undisputed master of subtle and glorious colour ombinations, but his patterns depend on the yarns being available if you wish to copy these exactly, as most knitters do. Rowan has taken the unique step of deciding to give Kaffe the chance to redesign and recolour 24 of his favourite Rowan designs in the current range of Rowan classic yarns, such as their pure wool Scottish Tweed and the Rowan pure wool and cotton ranges. Kaffe has chosen to recolour some of his existing designs or for the more complex designs, reinvent them as cushions or throws to make them accessible to less experienced knitters, who still want a touch of Kaffe’s magic. Born in San Francisco, Kaffe settled in England in 1964 and worked as an artist. On a trip to Scotland he stumbled on an irresistible collection of coloured yarns. A few months later he was hooked and proceeded to knit and stitch himself a career. Kaffe is the first living textile artist to have a one man show at the V&A museum in London. He has written many highly regarded knitting, patchwork and needlepoint books, including his first and most renowned bestselling Glorious Knitting, with photographer Steve Lovi. About the photographer Sheila Rock was born in the USA but has lived and worked in London since the l970s.
