Join us for a fun morning of sewing and learn how to hand smock, or continue where you left off last time you smocked with Maria. Smocking is an embroidery technique that uses small stitches to gather up the fabric. In the olden days, as well as being decorative, it also served a practical purpose - as the gathered fabric is able to stretch it is perfect for necklines or cuffs. These days you will usually find hand smocking on children's dresses, but it also looks great on women's clothes too.
About your Teacher:
As well as being an incredible designer, pattern cutter and seamstress Maria Pulley is also an excellent teacher, who's passion for sewing is infectious. She totally loves the whole process of creating a garment, from the concept through to the craft of making it.
Maximum class size of 6.
This course is for beginners to hand smocking.
You will need to provide a little fabric to experiment with. Something with a geometric print, like small spots, stripes or checks would be ideal as you can use the print as a guide.
