I've been given my first cloth kit (the green dungarees age 2-4) and am keen to start, but have no sewing experience except resewing on buttons! So I have some embarrassingly ignorant questions before I pluck up the courage to get my scissors anywhere near the pattern…

The instructions say to identify the pattern pieces for the size I want to make (my son is 2) but I can only see one place to cut around the pieces. There is a number '2' near the bottom of the dungarees but that's all. Does that mean I cut across there for age 2? Once I'd sewed the hem that would make the bottom of the trouers come halfway through the circle pattern, I think?

Also the broken lines on the leg pieces… what are those? Are they to show the seam allowances? They aren't all 1.5 cm from the edges, don't go all the way down the trouser legs and at some points they cross over and go outside the outer edge.

Feeling rather thick, here - any help would be much appreciated! If I manage this I will be so proud…

So sorry that you are struggling, and please accept my sincere apologies if it
is not clear. (there was a reply that I had left on the forum and I did infact
have an email chat with the lady too but I can see that it has vanished, so I
must look into that!)

The broken line is the cutting line for the
smaller age 2, so you should follow this one - perhaps the legend is not as
clear as it should be. The '2' marker at the bottom of the leg edge is the
suggested length for a two year old - in practice I would cut the length as long
as you can, and then turn up and adjust the hem once you have finished making
the dungarees. (At this point you could try them on the child, and make the
length just right). I hope that this clears it up, but if you would like me to
clarify it in any way, or would like me to give you a call to talk you through
it please do let me know.

PS - So to improve, I need to add a note to
the instructions about the different cutting lines would you say?)
