I have not sewed for years and my trusty Singer packed up ages ago. Can anyone give advice on buying a foolproof good value reliable new/second hand machine? I really want to get back into sewing - I was a clothkits kid, and I want to do the same for mine!

You might have already bought one by now (I see your post was a month ago!) but I have just bought this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4602215/Trail/searchtext%3ESEWING+MACHINE.htm , largely for its being half price, and have so far found it great to use (despite its obnoxious pinkness), though haven't as yet done anything very difficult on it. I'm quite new to all this…
