I SO love my Trellick Tower skirt - missed out on Clothkits first time around so it is great to get the chance to make and wear such lovely things now.
I followed the instructions mostly to the letter except for the finishing. I felt I didn't want to distract from the gorgeous printed design with visible stitching lines at the waist and around the hem so here is what I did.
1 Hem
I hand stiched it using a herringbone stitch like this http://bramblestitches.typepad…..e-sti.html
although I could have done a blind hem stitch on my machine http://www.instructables.com/i…..ng-Machin/
2 Topstitching at waist
I replaced this with understitching. This is where you sew though all of the layers except the one that shows. It stops the facing from being cheeky and peeping out - like this http://www.diceyhome.free-onli…..lesson.htm
or for a video of the technique, scroll down to step G and click on the link http://www.sensibility.com/pat…..cyhelp.htm
Of course there is nothing wrong with visible lines of stitching - I sometimes do them, sometimes don't. Just this time I preferred it without.
Did you change anything when you sewed your Trellick Tower?
Happy sewing!
