Gather your fabric, heeding pattern and positioning - you will learn two methods for this
Hand sew this onto the frame (you need no previous experience but a love of or big interest in hand sewing is key!)
Make a balloon lining and position this into the frame and hand sew in place
Make your base and top ring bias trims and (yes you guessed it!) hand sew these into position
You will also be shown how to make a variety of other trims for your lampshade.
The finer the fabric you use, the more softly gathered you can have your lampshade, and therefore ideal fabrics are thinner/medium cottons or cotton mixes, silks, quilting fabrics or indian block prints or even saris! NOT ideal are thicker fabrics such as heavier cottons, linens, upholstery fabrics, velvets etc. If you have a large pattern please note it may be lost in the gathers! You will need half a meter of fabric – however we will be joining widths so if you have a larger pattern, please bring more. Please ask for more detail if you are unsure.
INCLUDED in the cost of this workshop: full tuition over two days (there will be breaks for tea/coffee and lunch) and illustrated handouts, use of haberdashery – pins, needles, thread, scissors but please bring matching thread for your fabric if possible, and your own kit if you prefer.
EXTRAS – you will need a £12 budget for the frame, tape and lining fabric (paid directly to the tutor on the day)
Maximum class size of 6.
Ideal for complete beginners, or for those wanting to try something new.
The workshop is held in a bright and airy venue four minute's walk from our Clothkits shop. We will rendezvous on day one at Clothkits to collect any supplies needed and then take the short walk to the venue. Clothkits shop is located in central Chichester, about a 10 minute walk from the train and bus station. The closest car park is The Cattle Market.
