Appearing textural at first glance, this design is composed of carefully considered overlapping placements of a charming motif drawn by the artist Noritake. A small figure can be seen draped over a ball, which rotates (seemingly endlessly) to create a multi-directional design. Drawn with a bold outline in pen and ink, we added colour into the artist’s highly revered simple, monotone style – allowing the design to still be traditionally printed.

Collection: From Japan With Love was created by Liberty Fabrics in collaboration with eight contemporary Japanese artists. The collection’s contributors worked across a wide range of graphic, textile and fine art mediums, creating visually stunning artworks that were transformed into fabric layouts by our in-house London design team – each finished print reflects a different influential facet of Japanese art and design.
