I fell in love with the Follow the Light fabric from Liberty Fabrics the moment I laid eyes on it. When a party invitation arrived, it felt like the perfect excuse to make something truly special. The Beatrix Maxi dress was the ideal pattern to showcase the luxurious Belgravia Silk. It wasn’t the easiest sew, but that’s all part of the fun.

Getting the Fit Right
When sewing the Beatrix Maxi Dress, achieving the right fit is essential. I would highly recommend making a toile first before cutting into your final fabric.

The bodice features both bust darts and shoulder darts, which need careful fitting. As there are no fastenings in the design, it’s important not to make the bodice too tight. The dress should still be comfortable to slip on and off.
I noticed a few reviews mentioning that the V-neckline can feel quite low. Personally, I didn’t find it a problem, but if you prefer a little more coverage you might consider adjusting the neckline slightly.

Length Adjustments
I’m 5'10" with a long torso, so I added extra length to both the bodice and skirt to get the proportions right. The sleeve length worked perfectly for me without any adjustment.
