Zero Waste Sewing
Zero Waste Patterns
Zero waste pattern cutting is a bit like a puzzle. It is a method of pattern drafting where you utilise a pre-determined length of fabric end to end by strategically planning your pattern pieces so that everything is used. This approach forms the basis of zero waste patterns, helping makers reduce both fabric waste and excess materials.
We work with a PAPERLESS method which means that no printing of large pattern pieces is required. This means less wasted fabric, and paper! Instead of using full scale paper patterns, pattern pieces are instead drawn directly onto the fabric with the help of instructions and small templates. By using this method it is easier to work with different fabric widths and make simple design and fit changes to the pattern yourself, making it a practical and creative way to follow a zero waste sewing pattern process.
