You’ve got everything you need here to make a beautifully relaxed Boxy Jacket, made in a beautiful soft quilted double gauze fabric so there’s no lining required. The result is a soft, cosy layer with just the right amount of structure - easy to wear and endlessly useful.
Because the inside is on show, you’ll finish your seams with neat Hong Kong binding as you sew, and we’ve included clear guidance to help you master this technique for a clean, professional finish inside and out.
Before you Start
This version of the Boxy Jacket is unlined, so you will skip Steps 13, 14 and 15 in the main pattern instructions.
Before moving on to Step 16, make sure all of your Hong Kong seams have been completed. Unlike standard seam finishes, these need to be sewn as you go - shoulders, sleeves and side seams - rather than at the end. This keeps everything neat and avoids tricky-to-reach areas later on.
Take your time with this stage, especially if it’s your first time using Hong Kong seams. They’re a lovely technique to learn and really elevate the finished garment.
Fabric & Care
Main fabric: Your jacket is made using a beautifully soft quilted double gauze, giving it gentle structure without the need for a lining. It’s warm but breathable, making it ideal for layering through the seasons.
Composition: 75% Cotton 25% Polyester (lining)
Care: We recommend pre-washing your fabric before cutting to allow for any shrinkage. As this is a quilted double gauze, the raw edges can fray slightly, so if you do choose to pre-wash, we suggest overlocking or zigzag stitching the edges first to help prevent this in the machine.
Wash on a cool setting and air dry where possible to keep the fabric looking its best.
Sizing
This pattern is designed with a relaxed, boxy fit that layers easily over everyday outfits.
Please refer to the size chart provided with your pattern to choose the best size for you. If you’re between sizes, you can choose based on how oversized you’d like your jacket to feel.
What’s in your Kit?
Your kit includes the quilted fabric, bias binding, matching thread, and our Clothkits pattern with full instructions.
You’ll just need your usual sewing tools: sewing machine, fresh machine needle, pins or clips, scissors or rotary cutter, ruler, marking tools, and an iron and ironing board.

Clothkits Notes
This is a really satisfying make that looks just as good on the inside as it does on the outside. Don’t rush the seam finishing - taking the time to sew neat Hong Kong seams as you go will make all the difference to your finished jacket.
