This complete dressmaking kit contains everything you need to sew your own Clothkits Boxy Jacket in a beautiful quilted block print cotton. With no lining required, it creates a cosy, gently structured layer that’s easy to wear and endlessly useful.
Because the inside is on show, you’ll finish your seams with neat Hong Kong binding as you sew. We’ve included clear guidance to help you master this technique for a clean, professional finish inside and out.
Before you Start
This version of the Boxy Jacket is unlined, so you will skip Steps 13, 14 and 15 in the main pattern instructions.
Before moving on to Step 16, make sure all of your Hong Kong seams have been completed. These are sewn as you go - shoulders, sleeves and side seams - rather than at the end, keeping everything neat and easy to manage.
It’s essential to pre-wash your fabric before cutting. Wash at 30–40°C with a handful of table salt for the first couple of washes to help fix the dye and reduce colour run. We recommend washing twice before cutting.
Take your time with sewing, especially if it’s your first time using Hong Kong seams - it's a lovely technique that really elevates the finished garment.
Fabric & Care
Main fabric: A striking Bagru block print, printed by hand using age-old techniques, the fabric is then quilted with fine straight lines, creating gentle structure and a softly padded feel. Please note that horizontal quilting lines appear every metre as part of the manufacturing process and will be present within your cut length. Indian hand-printed cloths usually feature slight irregularities in the print, which are part of their charm and not considered flaws.

This pattern is designed with a relaxed, boxy fit that layers easily over everyday outfits.
Please refer to the size chart provided with your pattern to choose the best size for you. If you’re between sizes, you can choose based on how oversized you’d like your jacket to feel.
What’s in your Kit?
Your kit includes the quilted fabric, bias binding, matching thread, and our Clothkits pattern with full instructions.
You’ll just need your usual sewing tools: sewing machine, fresh machine needle, pins or clips, scissors or rotary cutter, ruler, marking tools, and an iron and ironing board.
