Before you Start
The Quarry Tote is a lovely make for an intermediate sewist, with enough detail to keep things interesting: a recessed zipper, front zip pocket, mesh interior pocket and a flat, boxy base. There will be enough fabric left over to make the zippered pouch should you wish.
We recommend pre-washing and pressing your fabrics before cutting out, especially for a hard-working bag that may be used and washed often. Press your Echino canvas from the reverse, using steam and a pressing cloth if needed.
This pattern includes two tote sizes plus a bonus coordinating zippered pouch. Your Clothkits pack has been cut and curated so you can make the larger “Regular” size tote with handles and a recessed zip closure, just as pictured.
Fabric & Care
Main fabric: Echino Rhombus cotton/linen canvas – a medium-weight canvas with a bold, colourful geometric print, perfect for bags and accessories.
Lining: Soft cotton poplin for a neat, smooth interior.
Care: We recommend a gentle 30 °C wash, line dry. Once your bag is made, spot wash only.

Your Clothkits kit is put together so you can sew the larger Regular Tote.

You’ll just need your usual sewing tools: sewing machine, size 90/14 needle (or similar for canvas), pins or clips, scissors or rotary cutter, ruler, marking tools, and an iron and ironing board.

Clothkits Notes
A slightly longer stitch length (around 3 mm) works beautifully for topstitching on canvas and helps show off your seams. A walking foot or even-feed foot can also be helpful when sewing through multiple layers.
Take your time with the recessed zipper and front zip pocket – they’re lovely details that give a really professional finish. Press carefully at each stage, and trim or grade bulky seam allowances to help the bag sit nicely at the base and corners.
We’ve chosen a continuous nylon zip that has the look of metal but is easy to work with and simple to cut to size. Just take care not to slide the zipper pulls off the end when you're cutting to size, as it can be fiddly to reattach.
