The Azure Sewing Pattern from Closet Core Patterns offers five beautiful variations in one versatile design. With a dress in two lengths, a separate sleeveless top and two skirt options, it's a wonderful pattern for creating a collection of easy-to-wear pieces that can be mixed, matched and styled throughout the year.
The real beauty of Azure lies in its striking diagonal gathered panels, which create lovely movement and an interesting, asymmetric silhouette. The dress has a semi-fitted sleeveless bodice with a simple round neckline and button fastening at the back, while the skirts feature a comfortable elasticated back waistband. Choose a crisp cotton or linen for a more sculptural look, or a soft viscose or Tencel for a fluid, flowing finish.
There are five versions to make:
- View A – Midi Dress: A sleeveless dress with two diagonal gathered tiers and a below-knee length.
- View B – Maxi Dress: A longer, flowing version with three diagonal gathered tiers for extra volume and movement.
- View C – Sleeveless Top: A simple cropped top with a round neckline and back button fastening, ideal for wearing with high-waisted skirts and trousers.
- View D – Midi Skirt: A below-knee skirt with asymmetric gathered panels and a comfortable elasticated back waist.
- View E – Maxi Skirt: A full-length skirt with flowing diagonal tiers and an elasticated back waist.
The dress bodice can be fully lined or finished with an all-in-one facing, giving you flexibility depending on your fabric. With its straightforward construction and clever design details, Azure is a satisfying project for beginners and more experienced dressmakers alike.

Suggested Fabrics
Azure is designed for lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics. For a more structured silhouette that really shows off the diagonal tiers, choose linen, cotton poplin, chambray, voile, batiste, double gauze or lightweight shirting.
For a softer, more flowing effect, try viscose challis, Tencel twill or silk crepe de chine. The gathered panels work particularly well in fabrics with a lovely drape.

Choosing Your Size Range
The main difference between the two size ranges is the bust and hip proportions. Sizes 0–20 are drafted for a B cup and a less pear-shaped figure, while sizes 14–32 are drafted for a D cup with fuller hips.
To help determine which range is most suitable, measure around your full bust and high bust. The difference between these measurements helps indicate your sewing cup size. A difference of approximately 5cm corresponds to a B cup, while approximately 10cm corresponds to a D cup.
If your measurements fall within both size ranges, compare your bust, waist and hip measurements carefully. The overlapping numbered sizes are not identical between the two ranges.
All measurements are body measurements in centimetres, not finished garment measurements.
