The Bertie Shirt from Atelier Jupe is a relaxed, contemporary shirt with plenty of opportunities to play with colour and fabric. With its loose-fitting shape, bold colour-blocking possibilities and lovely design details, it's a great pattern for creating something a little different for your handmade wardrobe.
Bertie features a front yoke, two topstitched chest pockets and a classic button-through fastening. The collar has a slightly wider stand for a modern finish, while a generous box pleat at the back adds ease and movement. Roomy elbow-length sleeves and a softly rounded hem complete the relaxed silhouette.
One of the best things about Bertie is how versatile it is. Mix contrasting fabrics and topstitching threads for a striking colour-blocked version, or keep things simple with a single fabric for an easy everyday shirt. Lightweight cottons and linens are perfect for a crisp, casual look, while viscose or Tencel will give a softer, more fluid finish.
This is a paper sewing pattern, supplied with a printed pattern sheet and sewing instructions in English, Dutch and French.
Important to Know: Atelier Jupe patterns are designed to be traced before use. The pattern pieces are overlapping and printed on both sides of the sheet, so tracing is essential.

Fabric Suggestions: Light to medium-weight fabrics including cotton, linen, viscose and Tencel.

Bertie is particularly well suited to colour blocking, and Atelier Jupe has provided fabric quantities for two different combinations. The tables below show how much of each colour you'll need to recreate these versions using 140cm wide fabric.
