Meet the Ex Libris Overshirt from Maison Fauve, a wonderfully versatile design that combines the relaxed feel of an everyday shirt with the structure of a lightweight jacket. Comfortable, stylish and full of thoughtful details, it's the sort of piece you'll reach for again and again.
The distinctive 1970s-inspired rounded pockets are a real feature, beautifully echoed in the softly curved hemline. A classic collar, button-front fastening, two-piece sleeves and neatly finished cuffs complete the look, while carefully placed topstitching adds a lovely tailored finish. Wear it open over a favourite top or buttoned up as a shirt for an easy, contemporary look.
One of the best things about Ex Libris is how easily you can change its character with your choice of fabric. Make it in a soft flannel for a relaxed everyday layer, choose denim or gabardine for a more structured workwear feel, or try a beautiful jacquard for something a little different. The design is unlined, making it a practical and satisfying project for dressmakers looking to develop their skills.

Height: Drafted for 165cm
Fabric Suggestions:
Medium-weight fabrics between 200–350gsm, including dupion, heavier flannel, jacquard, gabardine, denim and faux suede. Choose a softer fabric for a relaxed overshirt or something more structured for a lightweight jacket.
Fabric Requirements (140cm wide):
- UK 6–16 (FR 34–44): 1.9m
- UK 18–24 (FR 46–52): 2.2m
Additional Supplies:
- 40cm lining fabric for the pocket bags
- 7 buttons, approximately 15mm diameter
- 80cm fusible interfacing
- Matching sewing thread
Seam Allowances: 1cm seam allowances are included in the pattern.
Video Tutorial: Maison Fauve has created a helpful step-by-step video tutorial covering the collar, pockets and cuffs.
Ability: Intermediate. Techniques include attaching a collar, constructing pockets, accurate topstitching, sewing two-piece sleeves and attaching cuffs.
