    Description

This is a PDF Sewing Pattern which you will have to print.

The Fowler Jacket from Closet Core Patterns is a wonderfully versatile, gender-neutral sewing pattern offering two distinctive outerwear styles in one. Choose between a classic workwear-inspired barn coat or a cosy quilted jacket, both with a relaxed, oversized fit that's perfect for layering.

With its boxy silhouette, dropped shoulders, two-piece sleeves and simple collar, Fowler combines practical details with an easy, contemporary shape. It's the sort of jacket that works just as well thrown over jeans and a jumper as it does layered over a favourite handmade dress.

There are two versions to choose from:

    • View A – Barn Coat: A classic workwear jacket with double-layered patch pockets, a chest pocket, topstitched seams and a traditional pressed hem. The sleeves are finished with hem facings for a neat, structured look. Make it in sturdy cotton canvas, denim or corduroy for a practical everyday jacket.
    • View B – Quilted Jacket: A softer, quilted version with distinctive rounded patch pockets and double-fold bias binding around the edges and hems. Use ready-quilted fabric for a quicker project or quilt your own layers for a completely individual finish.

Both versions can be finished with buttons or snaps, and the generous shape leaves plenty of room for experimenting with fabrics, colours and decorative stitching. From a hardwearing cotton twill barn coat to a beautifully textured quilted jacket, Fowler is a pattern with plenty of possibilities.

    Pattern Details

    Suggested Fabrics

View A – Barn Coat: Medium to heavyweight non-stretch woven fabrics with some structure, such as cotton canvas, twill, denim, corduroy or wool.

View B – Quilted Jacket: Choose a ready-quilted fabric for a simpler project, or a substantial jacquard or brocade that holds its shape without additional wadding. To quilt your own fabric, use lightweight to medium-weight woven cottons such as poplin, lawn, voile, chambray or linen for the outer and inner layers, with cotton, bamboo or wool quilt wadding between them. Avoid very drapey fabrics.
