The Infit Top & Dress from Sewing Therapy is a wonderfully relaxed, oversized sewing pattern with a simple silhouette and distinctive sleeves that give it plenty of character. Designed with beginners in mind, it's an easy, satisfying project that can be made as a casual cropped top or a comfortable, everyday dress.
The design features a generously cut, straight bodice with a simple round neckline and beautifully shaped sleeves, gathered into elasticated cuffs. Clever triangular inserts, known as sleeve wings, sit beneath the arms, making the unusual sleeve construction easier to sew while adding an interesting design detail. Try making the sleeve wings in a contrasting fabric for a subtle pop of colour or texture.
Two versions to make:
- Top: A relaxed, boxy top with wide sleeves and elasticated cuffs. Lovely worn with jeans, skirts or wide-leg trousers for an easy everyday outfit.
- Dress: A loose-fitting, straight-cut tunic dress with practical patch pockets and the same distinctive sleeves. Wear it on its own or layer it over trousers and leggings for a contemporary look.
The construction has been kept deliberately simple, with a faced neckline, patch pockets and elasticated sleeve openings, making it a lovely introduction to garment sewing. There are no complicated fastenings, and the generous fit means there is plenty of room to experiment with styling and personal adjustments.
Fabric choice can give Infit a completely different feel. Soft linen, cotton, chambray and viscose are lovely for a relaxed everyday version, while lightweight denim, jersey or flannel can create a more substantial garment. Avoid very stiff or bulky fabrics, as the generous sleeves and oversized silhouette work best with a fabric that has some softness and movement.

Fabric Requirements
Fabric requirements are based on fabric approximately 137cm wide, with long sleeves. All measurements are in metres.
Top – approximately 48cm long:
- UK Sizes 4–18: 1.5m
- UK Sizes 20–28: 2m
Dress – approximately 94cm long:
- UK Sizes 4–18: 2m
- UK Sizes 20–28: 2.5m
Additional fabric may be required if you wish to lengthen the garment or are using narrower fabric.
Suggested Fabrics
Light to medium-weight fabrics with a soft handle, such as cotton, linen, chambray, lightweight denim, viscose, jersey and flannel. Lightweight wool or wool blends may also be suitable for a warmer version. Avoid overly stiff or structured fabrics, which can make the oversized silhouette appear bulky.

If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
Returned merchandise must be in the condition sold with original packaging and any tags intact. Goods must be unused, unopened, in perfect condition and remain in a re-saleable condition.
