Ruby is a wonderfully versatile skirt pattern with five different versions to choose from, taking you from classic denim to something altogether more elegant. All versions have a gently flared silhouette, with a choice of long or short lengths and plenty of lovely details to make each one feel quite different.
Versions A and B have all the hallmarks of a classic denim skirt, including a fly front, slanted pockets, fitted waistband, back vent and plenty of opportunity for contrast topstitching. Make it long for an easy, contemporary shape or choose the shorter version for a more traditional everyday skirt.
Version C pairs a long sheer or openwork outer skirt with a short opaque inner skirt, creating a beautiful layered effect. Versions D and E keep things simpler, with a clean fitted waistband, invisible back zip and back vent, again with a choice of long or short length.
Important to Know: I AM Patterns are designed to be traced before cutting. The pattern pieces overlap, so you will need to trace your chosen size onto paper. This allows you to preserve all the sizes on the original pattern and make any adjustments as you trace. You can use tracing paper, baking parchment or thin wrapping paper, or try our spot and cross pattern paper.

- A: Long denim-style skirt
- B: Short denim-style skirt
- C: Long sheer skirt with a short opaque inner skirt
- D: Long skirt
- E: Short skirt
Suggested Fabrics:
Ruby is designed with no ease at the hips, so choose a woven fabric with a little stretch for a comfortable fit. Knit fabrics are not suitable for this pattern.
- Versions A & B: Medium-weight woven fabrics such as denim, gabardine, cotton twill, faux suede, Tencel twill, velvet or corduroy. For the pocket lining, choose a lighter cotton such as poplin, batiste or fine cotton canvas.
- Version C: For the outer skirt, choose a structured sheer or openwork fabric such as embroidered cotton, silk organza or broderie anglaise. For the inner skirt, use a structured woven fabric such as cotton or silk satin. The inner skirt forms part of the design rather than acting simply as a lining.
- Versions D & E: Gabardine, cotton twill, Prince of Wales check, tartan, tweed, fine wool, Tencel twill, velvet, corduroy or jacquard.

- 30 cm x 70 cm non-stretch woven interfacing
- Versions A & B: 15 cm closed-end zip
- Versions A & B: One 18 mm jeans button
- Versions A & B: Thin cardboard for making the pressing and topstitching templates
- Versions A & B: 2–4 rivets for reinforcing the pocket openings (optional)
- Versions A & B: Topstitching thread (optional)
- Versions C, D & E: One 20 cm invisible zip

Returns
If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
Returned merchandise must be in the condition sold with original packaging and any tags intact. Goods must be unused, unopened, in perfect condition and remain in a re-saleable condition. Non-returnable items include kits once they have been cut, cut lengths of fabric, ribbons or trim, samples, sale items, and ex-demonstration items.
