The Ruby Vest Sewing Pattern by Syd Graham is a wonderfully versatile layering piece that can be worn all year round. Completely reversible and with a choice of lengths and fastenings, it's a lovely pattern for creating something that's entirely your own.
Ruby has a simple sleeveless shape with a gently curved neckline and neat bound edges. Choose between a shorter, cropped style or a longer length, and finish the front with pretty ties or buttons. The reversible construction gives you two looks in one, making it perfect for experimenting with contrasting fabrics, colours and prints.
For an extra special finish, Ruby can also be quilted, adding lovely texture and a little more structure. Quilting instructions are included with the pattern, although this step is entirely optional. Wear it over a blouse, shirt, jumper or dress for an easy extra layer.

Suggested Fabrics:
Lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics such as cotton lawn, quilting cotton, cotton poplin, linen and linen blends. Choose two coordinating or contrasting fabrics to make the most of the reversible design. If quilting your vest, select suitable wadding to achieve your preferred level of warmth and structure.

Binding Requirements:
Depending on your size, approximately 3.73–5.46m of binding is required to finish the vest edges. This can be made from your chosen fabric or a coordinating contrast fabric.
Additional Supplies:
- Fabric for the reverse side of the vest
- Binding for the neckline, armholes and outer edges
- Optional buttons or fabric ties for the front fastening
- Optional wadding if quilting the vest
- Matching sewing thread
