The Drawstring Vest is a versatile layering piece with loads of styling potential. Cropped in shape with open sides, an adjustable drawstring waist and zip-front fastening, it’s a fun, contemporary layer to throw over shirts, tops and dresses.
The elastic drawstring runs across the back and into the front, allowing you to cinch the vest in at the waist or leave it looser for a more relaxed fit. Welt pockets add a practical finishing touch, while you can choose between a collared version – with the option to add a zip placket – or a hooded version for a sportier look.
The hoodless version can also be made in the MINI children's size.
Sizing:
MINI–3XL. Adult pattern sizes are S, L and 3XL. Please refer to the Find Your Size tab for more detailed measurements.
Suggested Fabrics:
Light to medium-weight fabrics work well. Pre-quilted fabrics would be a particularly good choice, adding a little extra structure and making a lovely cosy layering piece.

- 3–5mm elastic drawstring cord for the waist – MINI: 123cm (83cm channel), S: 155cm (105cm channel), L: 200cm (120cm channel), 3XL: 235cm (135cm channel).
- 2 drawstring cord locks / toggles.
- 2 eyelets, 5–6mm diameter.
- Matching thread.
- Fusible interfacing – this can be omitted if using a tightly woven, heavyweight fabric.
Optional – Collar Version with Placket:
- 2 press studs, 6–10mm diameter.
Optional – Hooded Version:
- 3–5mm elastic drawstring cord for the hood – S, L and 3XL: 110cm (80cm channel).
- 2 drawstring cord locks / toggles.
- 2 eyelets, 8mm diameter.
Make More With The Pattern:
- Add extra rows of stitching for a decorative finish.
