A wonderfully easy-to-wear maxi skirt with a comfortable elasticated waistband, generous patch pockets and decorative topstitching. With its simple, relaxed shape, it’s the kind of skirt you can dress up or down and mix and match with different tops to take you effortlessly from week to weekend.
The pattern also includes the Elastic Waist Skirt MINI, a children’s version of the same design. This playful knee-length skirt has plenty of width for freedom of movement, along with an elasticated waistband and roomy patch pockets. MINI sizes are included for ages 3–4, 5–6, 7–8 and 9–10 years.
Suggested Fabric:
Light to medium weight fabrics such as cotton poplin, denim, wool, faux leather and cotton twill.

* You can use less fabric if you split the waistband into two pieces. Add a 1cm seam allowance to join the two pieces together. See the layout page in the instructions for examples.
You Will Also Need:
- Fusible interfacing.
- Thread.
- 10cm wide elastic – XS: 70cm, S: 80cm, M: 90cm, L: 100cm, XL: 110cm, 2XL: 120cm, 3XL: 130cm.
- MINI – 5cm wide elastic, approximately 60–65cm. Measure the waist and add 3cm to determine the required length.
If you can’t find elastic this wide, you can use a narrower width instead. Simply adjust the fabric waistband using the following formula: elastic width × 2 + 2.5cm.
Make More With The Pattern:
- Wear it as a dress with a Cuff Top or V-Neck Cuff Top made in the same fabric.
- Shorten the adult version to create a knee-length skirt.
- Experiment with different widths of elastic.
- Use contrasting thread to make the decorative topstitching stand out.
