The Lichen Duster is a wonderfully versatile layering piece that can be worn as a lightweight coat, wrap dress or relaxed robe. With its elegant shawl collar, princess seams, distinctive pockets and panelled skirt, it has a beautifully considered shape while remaining easy to style and wear.
Wear it open over dresses, jumpsuits, jeans and tees, or use the fabric belt to wrap it at the waist and transform it into an effortless dress. Choose between the dramatic high-low hem or a simpler straight hem for two quite different looks.
The Lichen is unlined, with front and back facings cut from the main fabric. Your choice of fabric can completely change its character – make it in linen or cotton for an easy everyday layer, or choose wool, silk or velvet for something altogether more luxurious.
Suggested Fabrics:
Mid-weight linen and yarn-dyed cotton are ideal for an easy, all-season version. More experienced sewists could also try mid-weight wool, silk or silk velvet.
Fabric Requirements:
For directional fabrics such as velvet, corduroy, satin or some prints, use the directional fabric requirements. For checks and plaids, allow at least an additional 20% for pattern matching.

Lightweight Fusible Interfacing:
- 90cm if interfacing the full front and back facings
- Four 2.5 x 2.5cm squares if only interfacing the stress points
You will also need:
- 3.7m of 6mm Wonder Tape
- 3.7m of approximately 15mm seam binding, such as double-fold bias tape or brushed cotton, for finishing the facing edges
- Or approximately 7.3m of additional binding if you would prefer bound finished seams throughout
Ability: Intermediate – a satisfying project for developing skills including shawl collar construction, princess seams, French seams, facings and hand finishing.

Finished Garment Measurements:
The Lichen Duster has the same bust measurement for all versions. Waist and hip measurements are taken from the centre front finished edge, around the garment to the opposite centre front finished edge.
When worn belted, the Duster should have approximately 10cm overlap at the front. Taking this overlap into account, the finished ease is approximately 26cm at the waist and 43cm at the hip.
The measurements below are for the regular hem. For the straight hem version, subtract 24.8cm from the back length and 7.6cm from the front length.

If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
Returned merchandise must be in the condition sold with original packaging and any tags intact. Goods must be unused, unopened, in perfect condition and remain in a re-saleable condition.
