The Ele Skirt from Sewing Therapy is a wonderfully versatile skirt pattern that combines a smart, flat-front waistband with the comfort of an elasticated back. With a softly flared silhouette and a choice of pleats or gathers, it's a lovely design that can be made in everything from lightweight linen to cosy corduroy.
The clever waistband gives the skirt a beautifully neat finish at the front, while the elasticated back makes it comfortable to wear and easy to pull on, with no zip or other fastening required. Hidden inseam pockets add practicality without interrupting the clean lines, and there are two waistband widths to choose from – a narrower band for a more relaxed look or a wider waistband for a classic, high-waisted finish.
Three ways to style the front:
- Knife Pleats: Neat, directional pleats create a flattering, softly structured shape with a tailored feel.
- Inverted Box Pleats: Bold, inverted pleats add a little more volume and definition, particularly effective in fabrics with some body.
- Gathered Front: Soft gathers create a relaxed, flowing silhouette, lovely in lightweight cotton, linen or viscose.
Fabric choice can completely change the character of the Ele Skirt. Make it in cotton lawn or lightweight linen for an easy summer skirt, choose chambray or denim for everyday wear, or try wool and corduroy for a more structured version for cooler weather. With its simple construction and interchangeable details, it's a satisfying project for beginners and a pattern you'll enjoy making more than once.

Fabric Requirements
Fabric requirements are based on fabric approximately 137cm wide and a finished skirt length of approximately 76cm. All measurements are in metres.
- UK Sizes 4–28: 2.3m
Additional fabric may be required if you wish to lengthen the skirt or are using narrower fabric.
Suggested Fabrics
A wide variety of woven fabrics, depending on the look you would like to achieve. For a softer, flowing skirt, choose lightweight cotton, linen, silk or viscose. Cotton blends, chambray and lightweight denim will create a little more structure, while wool, corduroy and heavier denim are lovely options for a fuller, more substantial silhouette.

The Ele Skirt is designed with a flat front and elasticated back waistband, making it comfortable and easy to wear. As there are no zips or other fastenings, choose a size that will comfortably pass over your hips when dressing.

Choosing Your Size: As the Ele Skirt has no zip or other fastening, select a size that will comfortably accommodate your hip measurement when pulling the skirt on. The elasticated back waistband provides flexibility at the waist, while the flat front creates a smooth, flattering finish.
Length Information: The pattern is drafted for an approximate height of 163cm, with the skirt designed to finish around mid-calf. The designer often makes the Ele Skirt at approximately 79cm long for a midi length. Adjust the length using the guideline provided in the pattern to suit your height and preferred finish.
