The Faux Collar Shirt & Dress PDF Sewing Pattern from Sewing Therapy is a wonderfully versatile design with a relaxed, oversized silhouette and a clever faux collar that creates the look of a traditional collared shirt without the complicated construction. With three different styles to choose from, it's a lovely pattern for creating easy, contemporary pieces to wear throughout the year.
Choose between a cropped shirt, a slightly longer tucked shirt or a relaxed dress. All three versions feature dropped shoulders, roomy sleeves, a button-through front and an inverted pleat at the back for extra movement and volume. The faux collar is attached to the front bodice, giving the appearance of a classic shirt collar while keeping the sewing refreshingly straightforward.
Thoughtful details include buttoned roll-up sleeve tabs, allowing the sleeves to be worn at different lengths, and side slits for comfort and ease of movement. The dress version also offers the option of adding shaping pleats for a more defined silhouette.
It's a brilliant pattern for experimenting with different fabrics. Make a lightweight cotton or linen shirt for everyday wear, choose a softly draping viscose for a more fluid silhouette, or try a cosy flannel for a relaxed cooler-weather layer.
Pattern Options:
- Cropped Shirt: A short, boxy style with a relaxed, oversized fit.
- Tucked Shirt: A slightly longer version, ideal for wearing loose or tucked into trousers and skirts.
- Dress: An easy, oversized shirt dress with optional shaping pleats.
Suggested Fabrics:
Suitable for a variety of woven fabrics including cotton lawn, poplin, linen, linen blends, chambray, lightweight denim, double gauze, viscose, Tencel, flannel and lightweight wool.
For a softer, more fluid silhouette, choose a fabric with some drape. Crisp cottons and linens will give a more structured, boxy finish.
Fabric Requirements:
Fabric quantities are based on fabric approximately 137cm (54") wide. Allow extra fabric for shrinkage, pattern matching or alterations.

If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
Returned merchandise must be in the condition sold with original packaging and any tags intact. Goods must be unused, unopened, in perfect condition and remain in a re-saleable condition.
