Inspired by the traditional Korean Hanbok, the Hanbok Wrap Dress from Sewing Therapy brings together beautiful, flowing proportions with a contemporary, wearable design. With its distinctive crossover neckline, softly gathered skirt and long waist ties, this elegant dress is a lovely project for anyone who enjoys sewing something a little different.
The fitted wrap-style bodice features a contrasting neckband, relaxed sleeves and a wide waistband that ties at the side, creating a flattering shape without feeling restrictive. Below the waist, the generously gathered skirt falls in soft folds, giving the dress plenty of movement and a graceful silhouette.
One of the lovely things about this pattern is the opportunity to play with colour and fabric combinations. Make the whole dress in one beautiful fabric, or take inspiration from traditional Hanbok designs and use contrasting colours or prints for the bodice, skirt and neckband. It's a wonderful way to create something truly individual.
Designed for confident beginners through to intermediate dressmakers, the pattern includes a series of detailed video tutorials to guide you through the construction.

Suggested Fabrics
Choose lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics with a lovely soft drape. Linen, cotton lawn, cotton poplin, silk and lightweight cotton blends are all suitable choices. A soft viscose or linen blend would also work beautifully, allowing the skirt to fall in gentle folds.
Avoid very heavy or stiff fabrics, which may create too much bulk around the gathered waist and make the finished dress less comfortable to wear.
Pre-wash your fabric before cutting to allow for any shrinkage.
Fabric Requirements
Fabric quantities are based on fabric measuring 142cm wide. If using narrower fabric, additional fabric may be required, and panels may need to be joined to achieve the necessary width.

The Hanbok Wrap Dress is available in sizes XS–3XL. The wrap-style bodice, waist ties and generously gathered skirt create a comfortable silhouette with an adjustable fit at the waist.
Choose your size using your current body measurements rather than your usual ready-to-wear clothing size. Pay particular attention to your bust measurement when selecting the bodice size.

Fit Notes: The dress features a crossover neckline, a shaped waistband with ties and a full gathered skirt. The waist ties allow some adjustment, while the skirt provides generous room through the hips.
