Looking for an easy, breezy skirt with a little something special? The La Ciotat Wrap Skirt by Sewing Therapy is a beginner-friendly sewing pattern with a relaxed gathered shape, flattering wrap front and two pretty ties that give it plenty of charm.
Inspired by the coastal town of La Ciotat in the south of France, this is just the sort of skirt for warm days and easy summer dressing. The main skirt is cleverly constructed from simple rectangular panels, making it approachable to sew and economical with fabric, while a softly curved tummy panel creates a comfortable, flattering shape at the front.
The skirt wraps around the body and fastens with two sets of ties – one at the waist and another at the edge of the tummy panel. This makes the fit wonderfully adjustable, with a generous wrap designed to comfortably cover the hips.
Choose a lightweight linen or crisp cotton for a little more structure, or try viscose or Tencel for a softer, swishier skirt. It would also look gorgeous in gingham, stripes, small florals or a beautifully simple plain fabric.

Suggested Fabrics: Lightweight woven fabrics with a soft drape and gentle structure, including linen, washed linen, cotton lawn, voile, poplin, double gauze, viscose, rayon, Tencel, seersucker and lightweight chambray.

Fabric requirements include all pattern pieces as drafted. If lengthening the skirt, allow approximately three times the amount you wish to add to the finished length. For example, adding 5cm to the skirt will require approximately 15cm of additional fabric.
Preparation: Pre-wash and dry your fabric before cutting to allow for any shrinkage. We also recommend reading through the instructions before you begin.

The measurements below reflect the finished garment when sewn as instructed. As this is a wrap skirt, the waist and hips are adjustable. The skirt includes generous ease through the hips, which can be tightened or loosened using the ties to suit your shape and comfort.
