The Prose Dress is a clever, beautifully detailed pattern with plenty of options to make it your own. The bodice has the look of a softly fitted button-front blouse, with a pretty scoop neckline and polo-style button placket, and can be made with elegant long sleeves or sleeveless for warmer days.
The skirt combines carefully placed darts and pleats to create lovely fullness without too much bulk, with generous slanted pockets tucked neatly into the design. Choose between a short or long length, and play with contrasting fabrics on the lower panel or add piping to really show off the seam. The skirt can also be made as a separate garment, giving you even more possibilities from one pattern.
There’s no zip to worry about either. The dress simply pulls on, with elastic across the back waist for comfort while the front remains flat for a neat, flattering finish. With so many variations to choose from, Prose is one of those patterns you can sew more than once and create something completely different each time.
Sizes:
UK 6–24 (FR 34–52), drafted for a height of 165cm. Please refer to the Find Your Size tab for detailed body measurements. Finished garment measurements are shown in the product photos.
Recommended Fabrics:
Light to medium-weight fabrics, around 100–200gsm, with softness and a lovely drape. Poplin, crepe, lightweight jacquard, twill, dupion, viscose, cotton, linen, Tencel and silk are all lovely choices.

Fabric requirements are based on 140cm wide fabric.

Techniques:
Constructing a polo-style placket, applying bias binding, sewing slanted pockets, setting in sleeves and making cuffs with a bound sleeve placket.
