Rainbow is the ultimate customisable sweatshirt pattern, with an incredible number of possible variations to make it completely your own. Choose from four lengths, three pocket styles, two front finishes and three neckline options, then decide whether to add ribbing for a sportier look or keep the edges simply hemmed.
Make a classic sweatshirt, a zipped hoodie, a sweatshirt dress or something in between. With so many combinations, Rainbow is a brilliant pattern for experimenting with shape, length and detail.
Important to Know:
I AM Patterns are designed to be traced rather than cut directly from the pattern sheet. The pattern pieces overlap, so you’ll need to trace your chosen size onto paper before cutting your fabric. This keeps all the sizes intact, making it easy to make another size or adjust the pattern in the future.
You can use tracing paper, baking parchment or other lightweight paper, or take a look at our spot and cross pattern paper.
Suggested Fabrics:
For the main garment, choose stretch fabrics such as sweatshirt jersey, interlock knit, neoprene or French terry.
For the ribbed versions, use ribbing by the metre or the same stretch fabric as the main garment. This pattern is not designed for pre-cut ribbing bands.

Versions:
This pattern gives you up to 96 possible combinations, depending on the length, neckline, pocket style and finish you choose.
- 2 styles: zipped hoodie or slip-on sweatshirt
- 2 cuff and hem finishes: ribbed or simply hemmed
- 4 lengths: classic, above the knee, below the knee or midi
- 3 pocket options: kangaroo, welt or in-seam
- 3 neckline options: classic hood, overlapping hood or neckband
For Zipped Versions:
- Classic length: 55cm open-end zip
- Above-knee length: 80cm open-end zip
- Below-knee length: 90cm double-slider zip
- Midi length: 110cm double-slider zip
For Hooded Versions:
- Approximately 1.15m drawstring cord
- 2 eyelets, sized to suit your chosen drawstring
- A small piece of non-woven, non-stretch fusible interfacing
For Welt Pocket Versions:
- 20cm x 40cm fusible interfacing
For Kangaroo Pocket Versions:
- Thin cardboard for making the pressing template

If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
Returned merchandise must be in the condition sold with original packaging and any tags intact. Goods must be unused, unopened, in perfect condition and remain in a re-saleable condition. Non-returnable items include kits once they have been cut, cut lengths of fabric, ribbons or trim, samples, sale items, and ex-demonstration items.
