The September is a wonderfully oversized coat with the easy drama of an overcoat and the relaxed feel of a duster. Designed with plenty of room for layering, it’s a versatile style that works just as well for striding through town as it does for wrapping up on a country walk.
Choose to make it lined or unlined and change the character completely with your choice of cloth. Make it in oilskin or wool for a substantial cold-weather coat, or choose linen for a lighter, more relaxed layer to throw on when the weather is milder. Heavier fabrics will give the September a stronger, more structured silhouette.
This is a multi-size paper pattern including UK sizes 6–18.
Suggested Fabrics:
Dry oilskin, oilskin, mid- to heavyweight linen, 7–12oz denim, wool, corduroy, cotton twill or canvas.
For the lined version, Barrier Lining is a good choice when using oilskin. Other suitable linings include cotton voile, lightweight linen, cotton poplin, hemp/cotton, lightweight wool or a traditional slippery lining fabric.
You will also need:
- Matching thread
- 5 x 20mm buttons
- 1.3m interfacing – optional, but recommended for most fabrics
A Note on Sizing:
The September is intentionally oversized, so there is a generous amount of ease built into the pattern. Check the finished garment measurements as well as the body size chart when choosing your size, particularly if you prefer a little less or more room for layering.

If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
