    Description

Explore the extraordinary world of Mexican embroidery with this richly illustrated guide that celebrates the artistry, symbolism and cultural heritage of one of the world's most vibrant textile traditions. Combining practical instruction with fascinating cultural insights, this beautiful hardback book offers both inspiration and technique for embroiderers of all levels.

Artist and researcher Gimena Romero takes readers on a journey through eight distinctive embroidery traditions from across Mexico, revealing the stories, symbolism and craftsmanship behind each style. From the colourful motifs of Tenango embroidery to contemporary street-inspired stitching, the book showcases a remarkable range of techniques, patterns and creative approaches.

Alongside detailed introductions to regional embroidery styles, you'll discover an extensive collection of stitches, motifs and decorative techniques, many carrying deep cultural significance rooted in indigenous languages, traditions and everyday life. Practical guidance on materials, tools and transferring designs makes it easy to begin exploring these techniques for yourself, while the included full-size templates provide a wealth of designs ready to stitch.

Beautiful photography throughout captures both the embroidery and the landscapes, communities and traditions that continue to inspire it today, creating a book that is as much a visual journey as it is a practical guide.

    Inside the Book:

    • Explore eight traditional and contemporary Mexican embroidery styles
    • Learn techniques including Tenango, Street, Mazahua, Toninero, Mixe and Purépecha embroidery
    • Discover experimental approaches including Lavín embroidery and texture-based compositions
    • Step-by-step guidance on tools, materials and transferring designs
    • Learn a wide variety of decorative stitches, motifs and embellishment techniques
    • Includes 8 pages of full-size templates ready to trace and use
    • Stunning photography by Pedro Aragón throughout

More than simply a collection of stitches, this book celebrates embroidery as a living artistic language, encouraging readers to honour traditional techniques while developing their own creative voice.
