Rainbow Mini is a brilliantly versatile sweatshirt pattern for children, with up to 70 different versions to choose from. Mix and match the length, neckline, pockets and finishing details to create anything from a simple everyday sweatshirt to a zipped hoodie or sweatshirt dress.
Choose between a classic or above-knee length, with kangaroo, welt or in-seam pockets. The pattern can be made as a zipped or pull-on style, with a classic hood, overlapping hood, neckband or ribbed collar. Finish the cuffs and hem with ribbing for a traditional sweatshirt look, or simply hem them for a more relaxed finish.
The pattern includes children's sizes 3–14 years.
Important to Know:
I AM Patterns are designed to be traced rather than cut directly from the pattern sheet. The pattern pieces overlap, so you’ll need to trace your chosen size onto paper before cutting your fabric. This keeps all the sizes intact, making it easy to make another size or adjust the pattern in the future.
You can use tracing paper, baking parchment or other lightweight paper, or take a look at our spot and cross pattern paper.
Suggested Fabrics:
For the main garment, choose sweatshirt jersey, interlock knit, neoprene or French terry.
For the ribbed versions, use ribbing by the metre or the same stretch fabric as the main garment. The ribbed collar version must be made using ribbing. This pattern is not designed for pre-cut ribbing bands.
Versions:
There are 50 versions with pockets, plus a further 20 versions without pockets. Choose from:
- 2 styles: zipped hoodie or pull-on sweatshirt
- 2 cuff and hem finishes: ribbed or hemmed
- 2 lengths: classic or above the knee
- 3 pocket styles: kangaroo, welt or in-seam
- 4 neckline finishes: classic hood, overlapping hood, neckband or ribbed collar

The quantities below are for the main A1 version. As there are so many possible combinations, refer to the pattern instructions for fabric requirements for the other versions.

For the classic zipped versions, the pattern is drafted to the metric zip lengths shown above.
You will also need:
- Main fabric and ribbing as required for your chosen version.
- Ballpoint sewing machine needle.
- 1 open-end zip for zipped versions – see chart above.
- 20cm x 40cm fusible interfacing for welt pocket versions.
- Thin cardboard for making the pressing template for kangaroo pocket versions.
- Matching thread.

Returns
If you change your mind about an item or have received the incorrect item then we offer a very straightforward return policy. You may return unwanted goods up to 28 days after purchase for exchange, a store credit, or a refund.
Returned merchandise must be in the condition sold with original packaging and any tags intact. Goods must be unused, unopened, in perfect condition and remain in a re-saleable condition. Non-returnable items include kits once they have been cut, cut lengths of fabric, ribbons or trim, samples, sale items, and ex-demonstration items.
